WebMonograph that examines the finance pattern of Brazilian publicly traded companies during the period of 1996 to 2006 and analyses the existence of the market timing theory of capital structure. The finance deficit is verified through the pecking order model of Shyam-Sunder & Myers (1999) using cross-sections for the period. WebAdditionally, we lack data on cash flows, dividend payments and capital expenditures, as well as on debt and equity issuance. Thus, we cannot test whether the financing deficits are closely tracked by new loans over time, as predicted by the pecking order hypothesis (see Frank & Goyal, 2003 ; Lemmon & Zender, 2010 ; Shyam-Sunder & Myers, 1999).
